Bipolar Disorder and Depression: Ways to Manage

Bipolar disorder is a problem that affects the state of the human mind and is categorized under mood disorders. One day or week you can be flying high so happy and energetic and the next day or week you will be so depressed that you cannot get out of bed. A person with bipolar disorder usually experiences high energy levels and elevated moods for a time and that is followed by a period of depression. A person with bipolar disorder can have more bouts of depression than bouts of mania or vice versa. It is also possible to have bouts of both with or without a normal period in between. Depression and mania can also occur together. Because of these factors, the symptoms of bipolar disorder can vary from individual to individual. Symptoms of the mania state include restlessness, anxiety, sleep problems, grandiosity, and more financial spending than usual. Symptoms for the depressive state include little energy, sleeping a lot, extreme sadness, hopelessness, and fatigue.

One must develop healthy habits and stick to a proper schedule of eating and sleeping. Make sure that a balanced diet is followed. Do not miss out any medication recommended by your doctor to help overcome this problem. A person with bipolar disorder ought to keep himself or herself fit by having an active exercise plan in place. One can also consider opting for therapy based treatment. This form of treatment is called psychotherapy or counseling.
Follow up with your visits to the doctor who provides treatments for bipolar disorder. Also, stay away from any form of alcohol and drugs even if they are supposed to be herbal or sold over the counter. It is best to keep occupied with a busy and active schedule. Find time to do various things and do not focus on just one particular activity alone. Take help from others when they offer you.
You must make a serious attempt to overcome bipolar disorder or at least manage the symptoms. This is because if left unattended, it can hamper your self-confidence and can also make you feel shameful, rejected, and confused. With the proper medication and counseling, you can surely get your bipolar and depression symptoms under control and live a happy life.
